ABSALON WINS DALRELLO STAKES IN BRISBANE

VINERY stallion Mossman sired his ninth individual Stakeswinner this season when two-year-old Absalon won the Listed BRC Dalrello Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm.

Trained at Sunshine Coast by Jason McLachlan, Absalon was having only his start in a race having scored an impressive win at Caloundra on May 22.

The colt came with a well timed run in yesterday’s feature to nail Scone galloper Mahisara (by More Than Ready) on the line.

”After (winning at) Caloundra people thought I was off my head when I said he was a group horse,” McLachlan said.

”He’s a really good horse. Not many can step up from a maiden to listed grade at their next run and win.

”He is a really good horse and I think he’s got a big future. He should really relish longer distances.”

Absalon was bred and is owned by Gerry Harvey who retained the colt after he failed to reach his reserve at the 2010 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling sale.

”Claire Bird (Harvey’s racing manager) always said Gerry would send me one to train – but she was just waiting for the right horse. This is the right horse alright,” McLachlan said.

Absalon, like the runner-up Mahisara, is out of a Danehill mare, in this case Danish Seaway, a full-sister to Hong Kong Group 3 winner, Sir Ernesto and a close relation to champion miler and influential sire Halling.
