TEN YEARS ON – TESTA ROSSA STILL THE MILE KING

HOW fitting that on the 10 year anniversary of Testa Rossa’s unforgettable win in the Group One VRC Emirates Stakes (1600m) that the Vinery stallion celebrate with another stakes winner over the very same distance.

It was back to back wins for the French-bred, now North American resident Blue Chagall, who made a one-act affair of yesterday’s Riot In Paris Stakes run at Hollywood Park.
Blue Chagall was sent out as the short $1.40 top pick with punters after his win in the Oak Tree Lure Stakes last start.

The 5yo gelding was conceived at Haras du Petit Tellier in Deauville where Testa Rossa stood during the 2004 Northern Hemisphere season.

It was a welcome win by Blue Chagall with Testa Rossa runners filling the placings in several Stakes races at Flemington and in Perth.  Gr.1 mare Ortensia returned to racing with a solid third in Patinack Farm Stakes Gr.1 behind Black Caviar in what was the first start of a preparation that will culminate in Hong Kong in December.

Testa Rossa’s other results saw a frustrating second to Red Colossus in the third event at Flemington before Mighty Rossa picked up more Black Type when third in the Ascot Gold Cup (L) over 1800m in Perth.

Blue Chagall’s win on Friday ushered in a monumental weekend for Vinery Stud sires in the States, particularly More Than Ready who sired the winner of today’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (1600m) at Churchill Downs.

More Than Ready is represented in tomorrow’s colts version of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile by Pluck who, like More Than Real, is prepared by hall of fame trainer Todd Pletcher.
