MOSSRIVER TO FLOW ON TO OAKS

TRAINER David Murphy intends to target the Group One QTC Queensland Oaks (2400m) with up and coming Mossman filly Mossriver who scored a punishing 3.5-lens win at Eagle Farm yesterday.

Sent out as a $2.10 favourite, Mossriver settled in midfield turning for home before unleashing a devastating turn of foot over the concluding stages to score an emphatic victory.
Murphy is a part owner in the filly who cost just $12,000 at the Magic Millions Yearling sale.
“If she had won at Caloundra last start it would have paid her way to go to Melbourne last week,” Murphy told AAP.
“There was a nice race for her on Oaks day but unfortunately she never paid for the trip away.”

Mossriver will now take a quantum leap to the Listed Mode Plate (1200m) at Eagle Farm on December 4.
“That was a nice win but it didn’t surprise me,” Murphy said.
“She had no luck off an awkward gate at Caloundra last start and the good alley (5) today made all the difference.
“She’ll go to the Listed fillies and mares race over 1200 metres next start and if she wins or races well I’ll put her away for the winter carnival next year.”

Murphy is hoping Mossriver will eventually stay and is hoping she’ll measure up to the Group One Queensland Oaks (2400m) at Eagle Farm during next year’s winter carnival.
“I’d like to see if she can stay next campaign,” he said.
“If she can she’ll be set for the Queensland Oaks. She’ll start off on an Oaks campaign after she comes back from a spell and if she doesn’t look like staying then we can always bring her back in distance.
“There’s a lot of races around for her next year.”

Winning jockey Michael Cahill was full of praise in the wake of Mossriver’s dynamic performance.
“That was one of the easiest wins from a maiden I’ve seen for a while,” Cahill said.
“It was amazing.
“She’ll definitely get 1600 metres next campaign and maybe further.
“I rode her when she ran second at Caloundra. She went up to them but she just felt the pinch near the finish.”
