MOSSMAN COLT AMONG HOGAN’S HEROES

NEW Zealand industry icon Sir Patrick Hogan was celebrating a treble of wins over consecutive days including the brilliant victory of Mossman 3yo, Hoofit, in the Listed Bonecrusher Stakes.

Sir Patrick’s run started on Friday with Caulfield Cup bound Precedence in the J.R.A. Cup at Moonee Valley on Friday night.

The next day and closer to home, Sir Patrick and others were cheering the breakthrough stakes win by their impeccably bred Mossman colt, Hoofit, who won the Bonecrusher Stakes (1400m) at Ellerslie.

And yesterday, Sir Patrick’s famous green and yellow silks were carried to victory by his Zabeel-Dantelagh mare, Zantelagh at Caulfield.

Incidentally, Hoofit’s win seems a just reward for a string of outstanding efforts in black-type races last season including a fourth placing in the Group One Sires Produce (1400m) at Awapuni.

The promising youngster will now be set for November’s NZ$1 Million New Zealand 2000 Guineas Gr.1.

He’s a big strong horse and he got better with racing last year,” a delighted Stephen McKee told Stallions.com.

“He had a tough run today – four and five wide so he should go on and make a nice horse.”

“There’s a million dollars sitting there for the taking – so provided he comes through this well we’ll probably go to the Wellington Guineas first and then Riccarton.”

The colt is the second winner from as many runners produced by the classy racemare Chuckle.

Chuckle earned almost $400,000 during a career in which she won or ran second in no fewer than eight black type races including the Dark Jewel Classic at Scone where Mossman stands at Vinery.

Saturday’s win sees Hoofit become Mossman’s 10th stakeswinner.
