MORE JOYOUS, MORE STRAWBERRIES, RUN FOR NAARA. . .

Several More Than Ready progeny are about to open their Spring Carnival campaigns led by one of the nation’s premier 3YO filly’s of last season, More Joyous.

The Gai Waterhouse trained star was a dominant force within her age group in 2009/10.  Restricted to only five starts for the entire season, More Joyous won the Group One AJC Flight Stakes as well as the Group Two treble of the Tea Rose, Light Fingers and Surround Stakes.

Not raced since winning the Surround Gr.2 in March, the writing is already on the wall as More Joyous scored a brilliant trial win at Randwick on August 6 defeating stablemate Rock Kingdom and reigning Australian Guineas winner Rock Classic.

Waterhouse has indicated More Joyous will be ready to resume racing in either the Group Three Tramway Handicap (1400m) at Randwick on September 4 or the Group Two Theo Marks Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill a week later.

Meanwhile, the unbreakable Waterhouse/John Singleton partnership have another of the More Than Ready offspring to stake a claim to More Joyous’ vacant 3YO filly’s crown in the shape of More Strawberries.

The lightly-raced filly finished a gallant third in the Golden Slipper Stakes in the autumn at only her third career start.

More Strawberries has since placed in her two barrier trials, both at Warwick Farm, signalling a bold return is on the cards.

With Merger Benefits and April in Venice also winning Randwick trials for More Than Ready and the likes of Run For Naara, More Than Great, Brightexpectations, Butt I’m Ready, set to return the future looks very bright for the son of Southern Halo.
