IRON HORSE MOSSURMI WINS CUP

THE outside alley in a capacity field of 16 still wasn’t enough to prevent iron horse Mossurmi from delivering connections a ninth career win in yesterday’s Coff’s Harbour Cup (1600m).

Mossurmi started $4.60 equal favourite in the wake of his unlucky half-length second at Rosehill over 2000m eights day before.

The Marc Conners-trained 6YO thrives on the ‘back-up’, in fact he collected the Nowra Cup and a Warwick Farm R0-81 just two days apart.
Mossurmi’s latest triumph edges his earnings closer to the $300,000 mark.

“He is a grand campaigner,” Vinery’s Conor Phelan declared.
“He’ll be having his 50th start next time he races and if he wins, it’ll be win number 10 – and he’s been placed 11 times too.
“The Mossman’s are a tough breed and there is no doubt that Mossurmi, like Prince Braeman, like Neeson etc, is one of the best examples. He’s probably at his best on a back-up and always gives all no matter what distance he races at.”

Marc Conners can lay claim to having intimate knowledge of Mossurmi’s sire, Mossman, having worked as foreman for his father Clarry when Mossman was racing.
