AGISTER HAS A SPRING IN HIS STEP

SMART Mossman colt Agister proved why he could be a force in better races come the spring after a determined win in today’s STC Theraces.com.au Handicap (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens.

The son of Mossman was having his first start since a hard run in the G3 AJC Kindergartern Stakes (1200m) earlier in the Sydney Autumn Carnvial.

The Allan Denham-trained youngster used his abundant pace to cross over from his wide alley sitting second in a fast run race behind nominal favourite, Pimpala Secret.
Agister reached the lead at the 200m mark pulling out plenty to stave off a late challenge from runner-up Fort Chauvel.

“We gave (Agister) one start in the autumn (Gr.3 Kindergarten) but he got a bit of a virus and wasn’t right so we had to put him straight out again,” Denham said.
“Anyone who saw him barrier trial the other day would certainly have taken notice of him.
“The thing about him is that he jumps, puts himself in the right position and he’s got a nice sprint.”

Denham said that Agister was likely to have his next run at Rosehill in two weeks time.

“And then we’ll just take it from there,” he said.

Agister provided the first leg of another Metropolitan double for resurgent Vinery sire, Mossman.
