AGE NO BARRIER FOR BENICIO YOUNGSTER

IT is a rare occurrence that a two-year-old defeats older horses, let alone at their first start, but that is exactly what Benicio colt Cuban Sunday was able to do at Sale today.

The impeccably-bred youngster mustered pace from an inside barrier to share the lead one horse off the fence in the early stages of the race.

He was joined by another runner rounding the bend but they were soon well beaten with Cuban Sunday pulling away to score in impressive fashion.

Still a 2yo, Cuban Sunday is a fine stamp of horse, very much in the mould of his father, and from a Sunday Silence sister to Group One sire Tayasu Tsuyoshi.

The colt was sold to Randwick Bloodstock for $75,000 at the 2008 Australian Weanling sale in Sydney.

His win comes hot on the heels of another recent Benicio winner in Larry’s Ready and compliments an army of Vinery/Mick Price winners including the likes of Perfectly Ready, Bel Mer, Halibery, French Bid and more recently Dubleanny (by Dubleo).
