Mossman never ceases to amaze despite living in retirement at Vinery Stud.

The 22 year-old son of Success Express sired his sixth Group 1 winner when Ivictory completed an astonishing rise up in the ranks in the Chairman’s Sprint (1200m) at Sha Tin on Sunday

Ivictory was spotting Mr Stunning 22 ratings point but defeated his stablemate by a half-length to increase his earnings to the equivalent of AUD 2.38 million.  Trainer John Size has always believed a horse without ratings on his side in feature races has a mountain to climb at set-weights but his latest star is the exception.

“There was a unique set of circumstances with Ivictory,” Size explained.  “His win rate was so good and they have been emphatic victories including one in track-record time.  So I thought we could try the Group 1, even if it might be one run too early for him.”

Ivictory (4g Mossman – Inca Lagoon by Hussonet) is from the immediate family of Yippyio (Queensland Derby Gr.1) and Iglesia (Silver Slipper Stakes Gr.2) and was purchased by Price Bloodstock for $80,000 at the 2015 Gold Coast Magic Millions.

He is the sixth stakes-winner from Mossman’s 2013 crop at Vinery following Cellarman, White Moss, Pedrena, Morvada & Crack Me Up.  Overall, there have been 31 individual winners among those foals at a superb 72% strike-rate.

Winning jockey Zac Purton was confident Ivictory would rise to the occasion on Sunday.  “He’s flying although you never know they will step up to this grade until you put them out there.  For some other horses, it might not have fit but for this one, it did.”

Mossman was pensioned last year after siring Group 1 winners Buffering, Mossfun, Ofcourseican, Miss Mossman & Plucky Belle and he can look forward to a long retirement at Vinery.

Success Express covered his last mare at the same age and lived out his days for another 8 years at Vinery.
