CASINO PRINCE JACKPOT IN PERTH

Trainers Geoff Durrant and Jason Miller will resist the temptation to target stakes races with Jackpot Prince this season.

The Casino Prince 3yo looked a promising stayer for the future in the WA Day Weekend Hcp (2200m) at Belmont on Wednesday.  He burst through a narrow opening along the rails to score by three lengths under Joe Azzopardi.

The Aquanita Stakes-LR (2000m) and Belmont Classic-LR (2200m) are on the radar next month but Miller is cautious about keeping him up for too long.  “He’s still maturing and we might only get one more run out of him this prep.  It’s hard to tip them out when they win like that but we won’t hesitate if he tells us he’s had enough.”

Jackpot Prince is bred to get over ground.  He’s the second winner from unraced Galileo mare Transit Of Venus (Aus) and descends from VRC Oaks-Gr.1 winner Diamond Shower.

“The blinkers helped today.  He travelled beautifully behind the leader and I just had to be patient,” Azzopardi reported.  “He really let down when the gap appeared.  He’s a classy horse and has a great turn of foot.”

Jackpot Prince was the fifth winner in as many days for Casino Prince and they improved his stats to 95 individual winners of $4.02 million this season.  He stands at Vinery for an $11,000 (inc. GST) service fee.
