All Too Hard filly Amangiri has taken the next step towards her Group 1 goal in the Australian Oaks (2400m) with a five-length victory against older horses at Hawkesbury.

Amangiri had won at Randwick second time out a fortnight ago and never gave her rivals a chance with a dominant front-running display in the Easy Lane Hcp (1600m) on Wednesday.

Owned and trained by Team Hawkes, she firmed from $26 into $15 for the Australian Oaks at Randwick on April 13.  “She’s just a very, very good filly and that was a really nice win,” co-trainer Michael Hawkes said.  “She jumped well and nothing else got a look-in.  She was in total control all the way.”

Amangiri (3f All Too Hard – Secret Indulgence by Fastnet Rock) will have her final lead-up to the classic in the Adrian Knox Stakes Gr.3 over 2000m at Randwick on April 6.

Team Hawkes is also considering an April 6 start in Sydney for their Melbourne-based All Too Hard 3yo Outrageous.  His managing part-owner Rupert Leigh floated the idea a Group 1 throw at the stumps in the $3 million Doncaster Hcp (1600m) following a first-up victory in the Autumn Trophy at Flemington last Saturday.

Amangiri is bred to run over more ground than a mile – All Too Hard sired her from a winning half-sister to Victoria Derby Gr.1 winner Amalfi – and jockey Tommy Berry was beaming after her latest win.

“I would have been disappointed if she didn’t put that field away,” he said.  “She’s a big striding filly who likes to roll along at her own tempo.  She has a clean action, carries herself quite well and has got a high cruising speed.

“It was the right decision to take her along quietly instead of going up against the better fillies too early.  There were a few chinks to iron out and get right before the Oaks.”
